Etiquette

Shared standards for a professional studio

These guidelines follow the wording from our previous policy and will be refined as the studio evolves.

Expectations

Respect the space, the people, and the materials.

Cleaning Expectations

  • Leave easels, taborets, and floors tidy before exiting the studio
  • Dispose of rags in metal safety bins and cap all mediums and solvents
  • Wipe down palettes, tables, and sinks after use

Respect Shared Tools

  • Return communal tools to labeled storage
  • Report damaged equipment to staff so replacements can be scheduled
  • Label personal materials clearly

Material Safety

  • Use approved odorless mineral spirits and keep containers sealed when not in use
  • Spray fixative only in the ventilated spray booth or outdoors
  • Store sharp tools with guards on

Solvent Guidance

  • Collect solvent waste in designated containers for staff disposal
  • Never pour solvents or mediums down sinks
  • Wear gloves when handling corrosive materials

Community Behavior

  • Keep critiques specific, constructive, and time-boxed
  • Use headphones for personal audio and step outside for phone calls
  • Respect class time by minimizing disruptions when entering or exiting

During classes

Arrive early, silence phones, and keep critiques on-topic. Observers are welcome only with instructor approval so active students get full attention.
